Kaiser Permanente of Virginia Health Insurance Plans
Coverage for Individuals and Families

The organization that is now Kaiser Permanente that is found in Virginia began at the height of the Great Depression with a single inventive young surgeon and a 12-bed hospital in the middle of the Mojave Desert. When Sidney Garfield, MD, looked at the thousands of men who helped build the Los Angeles Aqueduct, he saw an opportunity. He borrowed money to build Contractors General Hospital; six miles from a tiny town called Desert Center, and began treating sick and injured workers. But financing was difficult, and Dr. Garfield was having trouble getting the insurance companies to pay his bills in a timely fashion. To compound matters, not all of the men had insurance. Dr. Garfield refused to turn away any sick or injured worker, so he often was left with no payment at all for his services. In no time, the hospital’s expenses were far exceeding its income.

Kaiser Permanente offers Virginians several plan options, so it's easier to select the plan that's right for them and their families. For example, the Copayment 25 plan offers broad coverage, predictable out-of-pocket costs and prescription drug coverage -- for a higher monthly rate. Office visits have fixed copayments and no deductible. The Deductible 30/2700 with HSA plan offers Virginians the lowest monthly premium of all HSA-qualified Plans. It also offers an optional tax-advantaged health savings account. Also, the Deductible 40/4000 NM with HSA plan has a $4,000 deductible and one of our lowest premiums. $40 for office visits after deductible. Pair this plan with an HSA for tax savings.

With these kinds of affordable health insurance policies, and a long history of caring for its customers, it’s easy to see why so many Virginia residents choose Kaiser Permanente for their health insurance coverage.
