CIGNA CIGNA Choice Fund FSA Plan Information

CIGNA Choice Fund FSA With an FSA, partipants set aside pre-determined, pre-tax dollars, then use them to pay for eligible medical, dental and pharmacy expenses. Health Care Flexible Spending Accounts are a cost-effective way for participants to manage eligible out-of-pocket expenses not covered by medical plans. The participant pays no taxes on the contributions or the withdrawals.

CIGNA HealthCare offers two types of Flexible Spending Accounts:

Health Care Reimbursement Accounts

For health care expenses not covered by health benefits plan, such as copayments, coinsurance, deductibles or certain vision, hearing or orthodontic care costs. Participants do not need to be in a CIGNA HealthCare health benefits plan to be able to participate in a Health Care Reimbursement Account.

Dependent Day Care Reimbursement Accounts

For non-medical day care expenses for children ages 12 and under, or disabled dependents who satisfy the definition of a "Qualifying Relative" under federal tax law. Dependent day care expenses are reimbursable as long as the provider is not a spouse, another dependent, or your child if age 19 or younger.

Whether an employee participates in a Health Care or Dependent Day Care Flexible Spending Account; they will need to set their annual contribution goal amount(s) carefully. Estimate anticipated out-of-pocket expenses as accurately as possible to put aside enough to cover them without contributing more than they need.

FIRST STEP: Estimate costs for all out-of-pocket medical expenses for the coming year. There is even a worksheet to calculate capital improvements that may qualify.

SECOND STEP: Set up payroll deduction. Once the costs are determined, a portion of each paycheck will be directed to the FSA.

THIRD STEP: Select a payment option. Employees choose between automatic claim submission (where you skip the paperwork) or debit card payment (where you skip the wait for reimbursement).
