Oklahoma Medicare Supplemental Insurance (Medigap)

Medicare is not the only health insurance for seniors; in fact it is the most basic coverage possible and does not handle many of the most important factors for senior health care. In Oklahoma residents have basically the same choices in Medicare supplemental insurance as any other state. There are five choices in Medicare coverage to help provide the best health care possible.

Standard Medicare Part A is an automatic program that all seniors are enrolled in when they reach the age of retirement. This plan is free to everyone however, there are deductibles and co-payments that make it expensive and more importantly it will not cover many necessary medical needs. At 65 seniors can enroll in Medicare Part B. This is still provided by the government but it is not free. There are monthly premiums that are deducted from your social security check, and Medicare Part B still has the out of pocket expenses such as deductibles and co-payments.

After Part A and Part B other Medicare supplemental insurance is handled by private insurance companies. These companies provide excellent health insurance for seniors at federally regulated prices so they are affordable. Medicare Part C and D are two of the most common plans. Part D is the only Medicare supplemental insurance that is designed to pay for prescriptions so it is a very important plan to include in your coverage. Some programs such as Medicare Advantage include Part C and D together in one payment. Medigap is the last of the Medicare supplemental insurance policies to consider. Medigap helps pay the high costs of deductibles and co-payments, and also helps provide extra services that your standard Medicare coverage will not include.
