North Dakota Medicare Supplemental Insurance (Medigap)

Medicare is a standardized health insurance for seniors and traditional Medicare Part A is an automatic program that you are enrolled in the moment you come of age. However, standard Medicare does not cover many of the costs associated with aging and while there is no monthly cost to seniors enrolled in Medicare Part A there are out of pocket expenses such as deductibles and co-payments. When a North Dakota senior reaches the age of 65 they can contact their Medicare office at 1-800-MEDICARE and enroll in Medicare Part B. This coverage extends the services that are not covered by Medicare Part A. Please note that while this coverage is still administered by the Federal Medicare office it is not free. Medicare Part B has a monthly premium that must be paid and there are still deductibles and co-payments.

Even though Medicare Part A and B cover many of the medical needs of seniors there are still some areas of health care that they do not include. Neither Part A nor B includes prescription medicines, and some tests and treatments are not included in the plans. There are private health insurance companies available to residents of North Dakota that offer Medicare supplemental insurance to help with those costs.

Medicare Part C, sometimes known as Advantage and often including Medicare Part D (prescription medicine coverage) is available with a monthly premium. There is also Medigap to help pay for the expensive deductibles and co-payments left by traditional Medicare plans.
