Humana Medicare Insurance: Supplemental Health Insurance for Seniors in Georgia

Humana Medicare Insurance provides Medicare Supplemental Insurance Plans (also called Medigap) for seniors in Georgia. Humana offers Plans A, B, C, F, K, L, and high-deductible Plan F. Medigap plans are referred to by letters A through L, with Plan A consisting of the most basic benefits, and all other plans containing the benefits of Plan A, plus one or more other coverage points. Federal and state law require that Medigap policies are standardized, so that policies of the same letter (for example, Plan C) consist of the same benefits, regardless of which health insurance company you choose.

Medicare supplemental insurance plans for seniors in Georgia have one set of basic benefits and require a higher monthly premium. Plans K and L have a lower monthly premium and offer a different set of basic benefits. Medigap high-deductible Plan F also has a lower monthly premium, and offers the same benefits of the regular Medigap Plan F, but you have to pay more out of pocket ($1,900; 2008 figure) before your supplemental health insurance plan pays anything.

Medigap Supplemental Health Insurance Policies A-J for Seniors in Georgia

The following basic benefits must be offered in all Medigap policies A-J:

• The first three pints of blood in each calendar year, unless that blood is replaced.
• The total cost of in-hospital care beyond the standard 150 days covered by Medicare, until a maximum of 365 lifetime days.
• Co-insurance for days 61-90 in the hospital ($265 per day in 2008), as well as co-insurance for your 60 lifetime reserve days.
• Co-insurance benefits of 20% for charged approved by Medicare after Medicare's Part B annual deductible of $135 has been reached.

You are eligible for Humana Medicare's Medicare supplemental insurance plans if you are a senior (age 65 or better) and resident in Georgia, and you are enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B.
