Humana of Michigan Medigap Insurance For Seniors

Humana of Michigan's Medicare supplemental insurance plans - also known as Medigap plans - fill in the coverage 'gaps' in the Original Medicare Plan. While Medicare pays for many health care services for seniors, there are various services it doesn't cover. Medicare supplemental insurance is designed to pay for the out-of-pocket expenses that Medicare doesn't pay for, such as deductibles and coinsurance.

Medigap policies are standardized, meaning that while plans are sold by various private insurance companies, the plans themselves are identical. In Michigan, Medigap policies are labeled as Plans A through L, with each plan containing at least the basic benefits offered in Plan A, and every plan after that offering at least one additional benefit.

Medigap Supplemental Health Insurance Policies A-J in Michigan

The following basic benefits must be offered in all Medigap policies A-J:

• The first three pints of blood in each calendar year, unless that blood is replaced.
• The total cost of in-hospital care beyond the standard 150 days covered by Medicare, until a maximum of 365 lifetime days.
• Co-insurance for days 61-90 in the hospital ($265 per day in 2008), as well as co-insurance for your 60 lifetime reserve days.
• Co-insurance benefits of 20% for charged approved by Medicare after Medicare's Part B annual deductible of $135 has been reached.

Humana of Michigan's Medigap plans for seniors are organized into two segments: Plans A through J, which have a certain set of basic insurance benefits and charge a higher monthly premium; and Plans K through L, which have a different set of basic benefits and have a lower premium.

Humana offers Medicare supplemental insurance plans A, B, C, F, K, L, and high-deductible Plan F to Michigan residents. High-deductible Plan F consists of the same primary benefits as regular Plan F, but offers a significantly lower monthly premium in exchange for a higher annual deductible ($1900 in 2008). This deductible must be paid out-of-pocket before your Humana Medigap plan coverage kicks in.
