Florida Medicare Advantage Health Plans for Seniors

About Medicare Advantage Health Plans in Florida

Florida Medicare Advantage Plans are health plan options approved by Medicare and offered by private companies. Certain private insurance companies offer Medicare Advantage plans, also referred to as Medicare Part C. Medicare Advantage plans have a contract with Medicare that allows them to administer your Medicare benefits (Part A and Part B), so you have one source for your health care coverage. These plans may also provide enhanced benefits that go beyond those required by Medicare. To help you save more on the cost of your coverage, certain Medicare Advantage plans use provider networks (health maintenance organizations and preferred provider organizations) to reduce your share of the cost for covered services.

About Medicare Part A

Medicare Part A is Medicare's hospital insurance program. Helps pay for inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing care following a hospital stay, home healthcare and hospice care. Part A is financed in part by the Social Security payroll withholding tax and the Self-Employment tax. If you qualify for benefits under the Social Security or Railroad Retirement systems or through government employment, you also qualify for premium-free Part A benefits.

About Medicare Part B

Medicare Part B is optional supplementary medical insurance that requires a monthly premium. Covers physician services in hospital and non-hospital settings, and services furnished by certain non-physician practitioners. Coverage also includes lab testing, Durable Medical Equipment, diagnostic tests, ambulance services, prescription drugs that can't be self-administered, some self-administered anticancer drugs, and other therapies. If you sign-up for a Medicare Advantage Plan you do not need and are no longer eligible to buy Medigap Supplemental Insurance policies. Medigap will not cover your Medicare Advantage Plan deductibles, copayment, or coinsurance.

About Medicare Part C

Medicare Part C is the program that offers Medicare beneficiaries the option of enrolling in a managed care plan to receive their Medicare benefits (both medical and drug coverage). The program replaces the Medicare + Choice (M+C) program under Part C in Medicare and is also referred to as Medicare Advantage.
