Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nevada: Medicare Supplemental Insurance Plans
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nevada offers Medigap standard Plans A, B, F, I, and J, as well as high-deductible plans F and J, for resident seniors. Medigap, or Medicare supplemental insurance, is a type of private health insurance designed to fill in the coverage 'gaps' left by the Original Medicare policies. In other words, Medigap plans pay for the health care expenses that Medicare doesn't pay.
To be eligible for a Medigap policy through Anthem Blue Cross in Nevada, you must be a Nevada resident, a senior (aged 65 or better), and enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B. Residents with end-stage renal disease and those under age 65 with certain types of disabilities are also eligible for Medicare supplemental insurance.
Medigap policies are standardized throughout Nevada, meaning that policies (referred to by letters A through J) of the same letter offer the exact same benefits statewide, regardless of the insurance company you choose. So aside from issues like the quality of customer service, the greatest difference you're likely to find between health insurance companies is the pricing of their Medigap policies for seniors.
If apply for Medigap coverage through Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nevada before, or within six months of, enrolling in Medicare Part B (called your 'open enrollment period'), your application is guaranteed acceptance - no underwriting required. If you apply after being in enrolled in Medicare Part B for six months or more, Anthem will check your current health condition and medical history to see if you're eligible for the plan you've applied for.
Your pre-existing medical conditions are guaranteed immediate coverage if you enroll during your open enrollment period, or if you're a senior replacing a Medicare supplemental insurance policy you already have.
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nevada offers convenient billing options for policyholders. You can select to be billed either directly, or through automatic bank debit (if your bank participates). And you can choose to pay your premium monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly. Additionally, Anthem's Medigap plans for seniors have a 30-day 'free look' policy. After enrolling in a policy, you're free to decide whether you like the plan you have, want to switch plans, or want to cancel your policy altogether during the first 30 days. If you're not happy with your plan, Anthem will issue a full refund of your premium.
