Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Medicare Plans in Virginia
As a senior citizen of Virginia, Medigap insurance may be useful to you for a number of reasons. You may want to save money on the out-of-pocket expenses not covered by your Medicare plan, especially on expensive services like extended in-home nursing care. You may place a high level of importance on choosing your own health care specialists and hospital. Medigap, also known as Medicare supplemental insurance, provides you with these benefits and more.
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is one of Virginia’s most established and trusted Medicare supplemental insurance providers. All Medigap plans are offered through private insurance companies; and as a private company, Anthem is able to offer its customers a number of helpful customer service options and added services to its select Medigap policies. Policies A, F, and high-deductible Plan F are available to senior residents in Virginia.
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield defines their available Medigap plans in two categories:
- Blue Assurance Attained Age Plans – These plans are based on the ‘attained-age’ method for pricing Medigap plans, meaning that your policy price is largely determined by your current age and will increase each year as you get older, or ‘attain’ a higher age. However, rate adjustments may also be affected by your general health care costs as well as changes to Medicare. All Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield plan for Virginia seniors are priced based on the attained-age structure.
- Blue Assurance Plan F High Deductible – The benefits of the popular Medigap Plan F can be had with high-deductible Plan F at a significantly lower cost. The only difference between the two plans are the annual deductible, which is $1,900 for high-deductible Plan F as of 2008. The regular benefits of Plan F kick in once you meet the full deductible amount, although a separate deductible is still required for foreign travel emergencies.
To be eligible for a Medicare supplemental insurance plan with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Virginia, you must be a Virginia resident, a senior aged 65 or better, and already enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B.
