Unicare Life & Health Ins. Company Medicare Plans in Texas
UniCare of Texas offers four Medicare supplemental insurance plans (also known as Medigap plans) for seniors: Standard Plan A, Standard Plan F, Standard Plan G, and Standard Plan L. These plans are designed to fill in various cost 'gaps' in the health coverage provided by Medicare. Depending on which Medigap policy you choose, you can reduce or eliminate your out-of-pocket health expenses for medical services not paid for by Medicare.
Seniors enrolled in a Medicare supplemental insurance plan through UniCare of Texas receive many benefits above and beyond the plan coverage itself, including:
- Medigap coverage is guaranteed renewable from year to year. If your premium is paid on time, Unicare will not cancel your policy, and there's no need to reapply each year.
- Pre-existing medical conditions receive immediate coverage for new policy holders. Many companies require a waiting period for pre-existing conditions of up to six months.
- Various plans with affordable prices to meet individual needs.
- You are free to choose and receive direct access to any participating health care provider, hospital or medical center within our extensive network.
Because supplemental health insurance companies in Texas set their own monthly premiums, plans vary in price from insurer to insurer. Knowing how your insurer determines the price of your Medigap plan is important for understanding how much your plan will cost now and in the future. There are three types of pricing structures for Medigap health insurance for seniors: 1) issue-age rated, 2) community rated, and 3) attained-age rated.
UniCare of Texas uses the attained-age rated pricing method to set prices for its Medigap policies. This means that your Medigap premium is based on your age, and increases as you get older. Attained-age rated insurance policies for seniors may cost less when you're younger, but may end up costing the most as you become significantly older. Your premium may also be adjusted for inflation or other factors.
UniCare of Texas' most popular Medigap plan for seniors is Standard Plan F. Their newest Medigap plan, the Senior PrimeChoice plan, combines the benefits of Standard Plan F with a higher annual deductible ($1,860), resulting in a more affordable monthly premium.
With the Senior PrimeChoice plan, Medicare covers all health costs implicated by your regular Medicare plan. You are responsible for Medicare Part A and B deductibles and co-insurance. When Medicare has covered its portion of your health care costs, and your payments have met your $1,860 deductible, the Senior PrimeChoice plan will cover all remaining costs outlined in the policy.
UniCare of Texas determines the rates for your Senior PrimeChoice plan by factors such as your age, your tobacco use, and your zip code. Gender is not taken into account when determining premiums.
