Oregon Medicare Supplemental Insurance (Medigap)
Finding the proper health insurance for seniors can be confusing for many people getting close to retirement age. There are a lot of concerns to consider such as being able to afford the deductibles and co-payments that are associated with standard Medicare coverage as well as the medical services not provided by Medicare Part A.
Once individuals reach retirement age they are automatically enrolled in Medicare Part A. There is nothing that needs to be done to get involved and there are no monthly fees. Medicare Part A does not include many necessary medical treatments or checkups however and it does have deductibles that need to be met as well as co-payments. At 65 seniors can opt in to Medicare Part B. This plan is provided by the government but has to be applied for. There are also monthly premiums for Medicare Part B although this extended Medicare coverage handles many extra medical expenses not covered with the original Medicare program. There are still deductibles and co-payments for Medicare Part B.
Medigap is a health insurance for seniors provided by private insurance companies to help pay for the out of pocket costs that seniors incur from Medicare billing. This plan may or may not include Medicare Part D which is the prescription coverage that is so important for Oregon seniors to make sure they have. Medicine is a major health care cost and without Part D can become a crippling expense.
Medicare supplemental insurance such as Medicare Part C sometimes known as Advantage plans that include Part D as well can be found at most private insurance companies in the state and even though they have monthly premiums they are regulated by the government to be reasonable and affordable.
