Mississippi Medicare Supplemental Insurance (Medigap)
All of the government provided Medicare plans for the citizens of the state of Mississippi are handled by Windsor Medicare Services. These plans include Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B. While all individuals of retirement age are automatically enrolled in Medicare Part A it is up to each person to make sure they get the additional Medicare Part B coverage and that is important because Medicare Part A only covers very basic medical expenses. Other services such as ambulance transportation, tests and extensive treatments such as dialysis are not covered by Part A that are taken care of by Part B.
Medicare Part B is considered a Medicare supplemental insurance and there is a monthly premium for the extra coverage. In some cases if an individual is in the lower income brackets they can qualify for Medicaid to help pay for the expenses. Other private insurances are available to the senior residents of Mississippi such as Medicare Part C also known as Medigap which covers expenses not paid by regular Medicare as well as helping to pay for the out of pocket expenses such as deductibles and co-payments. Many Medicare Part C plans also include Part D which is the prescription drug program for Medicare recipients. Without Part D your medicines will not be covered by insurance. When checking out health insurance for seniors find out what your extra supplement plans include so you are not caught unaware when the need presents itself.
Seniors can get more information from the Medicare office at 1-800-MEDICARE or calling the Social Security Administration. These offices cannot give you answers to what other companies have as Medicare supplemental insurance but can help you determine what you need and tell you what your standard Medicare covers.
