Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Medicare Plans in Kentucky
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield offers five Medicare supplemental insurance plans to Kentucky residents: Plans A, B, C, E, and F. Medicare supplemental insurance (also called 'Medigap', because it fills in many of the coverage 'gaps' left by Original Medicare) Plan A consists of the most basic Medigap benefits, while Plans B through L offer at least one or more additional benefits, covering expenses like the Medicare Part A deductible, skilled nursing facility care, and the Medicare Part B deductible.
Seniors in Kentucky benefit from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield's Medigap plan services in several ways beyond immedate plan coverage benefits. For example:
- Your Medigap coverage is guaranteed renewable from year to year. If your premium is paid on time, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield will not cancel your policy, and there's no need to reapply for coverage each year.
- Pre-existing medical conditions receive immediate coverage for new policy holders. Many companies require a waiting period for pre-existing conditions of up to six months.
- Various plans are available at affordable prices to meet individual needs.
- You are free to choose and receive direct access to any participating health care provider, hospital or medical center within our extensive network.
The best time to apply for a Medicare supplemental insurance plan with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is during your "open enrollment period". This period is the first six months after you enroll in Medicare Part B and are a senior aged 65 or better. During your open enrollment period, you are guaranteed acceptance onto the Medigap policy of your choosing, and Anthem will not use medical underwriting to determine your premium or eligibility.
In addition to their regular Medigap policies, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield also offers four Medicare SELECT plans for seniors in Kentucky. Medicare SELECT offers nearly identical benefits to traditional Medigap. However, regular Medigap allows you to choose any health care provider you prefer for your medical needs, while Medicare SELECT requires you to choose from the extensive Anthem provider network. In exchange, Medicare SELECT premiums are lower then regular Medigap premiums, and are an option to consider if you'd like to save money.
To be eligible for a Medicare supplemental insurance plan through Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kentucky, you must be a senior aged 65 or better and already enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B. You may also be eligible if you are under age 65 with certain disabilities, or if you have end-stage renal disease, and are enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B.
