Medicare Advantage by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield has been serving Connecticut residents for over 70 years. They offer a range of Medicare Supplemental insurance plans for seniors (also called Medigap plans) to suit different needs. Because Anthem is a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), you have the flexibility to use the hospitals and health care providers of your choice, drawing from a provider network of over 50,000 members nationwide.
Anthem Blue Cross offers Medigap Plans A, B, C, D, E, F, and F high-deductible in Connecticut. Medigap policies are marked by letters (A through L), with each letter corresponding to a different Medigap plan. Each letter plan is standardized, meaning that, for example, Plan B in Connecticut is the same as Plan B in California. Medigap Plan A consists of the basic benefits included in all Medicare Supplemental insurance policies, with other policy letters containing one or more additional benefits.
Anthem Blue Cross guarantees acceptance of your Medigap application, as long as you apply for coverage before, or within six months of, enrolling in Medicare Part B. If you apply for a Medigap policy during your Medigap Open Enrollment period (the first six months after turning 65), or you're simply switching your Medicare Supplemental plans, you do not have to wait to receive coverage for pre-existing medical conditions.
However, if you do not meet the above conditions, Anthem Blue Cross requires a six-month waiting period to cover pre-existing conditions for Connecticut residents.
As a Connecticut senior, you and your spouse can save 5% off your combined monthly premium by enrolling together in one of Anthem Blue Cross's Medicare Supplemental plans. To receive the discount, make sure you fill out section 6 during the application process. In addition, Anthem offers convenient billing options, with the ability for Medigap policy holders to pay monthly, quarterly, or annually. To prevent forgetting to pay your premium and having your policy accidentally cancelled, you also have the ability to set up a direct bank account debit.
Medigap Plan A offers only these basic benefits. Medigap Plans B through J offer additional benefits to those listed here.
