HEALTH PLANS FOR SENIORS
Unicare of Utah Medicare InsuranceAdvantage, Medigap Supplemental and Part D Prescription Drug Plans
Medicare supplemental insurance is intended to complement the Original Medicare Plan (Medicare Parts A and B). It fills in the gaps in Medicare’s coverage, minimizing your out-of-pocket expenses for health care.
UniCare of Utah is one of the largest, most established companies to offer Medicare supplemental insurance plans for seniors in Utah. Their Medigap policies help cover co-payment, co-insurance, and certain deductibles, although your annual deductible level depends on the policy you choose. For example, high-deductible Plan F offers the same benefits as the very popular Plan F, but with a higher annual deductible ($2000 in 2009) and a lower monthly premium.
The plan you need depends on your specific requirements and circumstances. All UniCare of Utah policies offer at least the benefits offered in Medigap Plan A, which is the most basic Medigap policy for seniors, plus additional benefits and premium adjustments depending on the policy letter. UniCare of Utah offers four of the fourteen Medicare supplemental insurance plans available in the state: Medigap Standard Plan A, Standard Plan F, PrimeChoice high-deductible Plan F, and Standard Plan L.
Standard Plan F is UniCare of Utah’s most popular Medigap policy for seniors. It offers a low premium and pays a significant portion of your deductibles. In addition to the basic benefits of Plan A, Standard Plan F offers the following benefits:
- Co-insurance for skilled nursing facilities
- Hospital deductible for Medicare Part A - $1068
- Medical deductible for Medicare Part B - $135
- Excess travel charges
- Coverage for foreign travel emergencies ($250 deductible applies)
UniCare of Utah’s PrimeChoice high-deductible Plan F is a smart option for seniors who enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle, and don’t require frequent medical attention. The very low premium offers an attractive way to save on insurance costs, and you can always switch to a different Medicare supplemental insurance policy, offering a higher amount of coverage, if you need to later on.
