Highmark Blue Shield of Pennsylvania offers Medicare Advantage, Medigap supplemental health insurance and Medicare Prescription Drug Plans in local markets across Pennsylvania. If you're eligible for Medicare, you can get health coverage through the Original Medicare plan in Pennsylvania. However, many people find that Original Medicare does not cover all their healthcare needs because many medical services and supplies are not covered.

To help pay for these services and supplies in Pennsylvania, many people enhance their coverage with a Medicare Supplement (also known as Medigap) plan. Others like the convenience and coverage of a Medicare Advantage managed-care plan that provides rich benefits without large plan premiums. In fact, some of these plans don't have any additional plan premium at all. Highmark Blue Shield of Pennsylvania Medicare Supplement Plans help cover the gaps in Original Medicare, such as Parts A and B deductibles, copayments, coinsurance and more. FreedomBlue PPO – Medicare Advantage Plans

FreedomBlue PPO is a Medicare Advantage Preferred-Provider Organization that gives you coverage for every need – health, prescription drugs, routine dental, vision, hearing and preventive care. FreedomBlue PPO lets you choose where you receive your care, throughout the FreedomBlue PPO network and the combined Blue Plan Medicare Advantage PPO networks that span counties in 29 states and Puerto Rico, or out of the network anywhere you may travel. FreedomBlue PPO is available to individuals who are entitled to Medicare Part A and enrolled in Medicare Part B who live in one of 62 Pennsylvania counties. FreedomBlue PPO covers all Medicare-covered benefits, including preventive care, doctor visits, hospital stays and more. Plus, you get added benefits, such as vision, hearing, and dental care. All FreedomBlue PPO plans come with Part D Prescription Drug coverage, giving you access to all drugs allowed by Medicare. With FreedomBlue PPO, you get the freedom to see any doctor – along with the strength and stability of one of the largest provider networks in the state, plus you never need a referral to see a specialist. Deductibles, coinsurance and limitations apply to out-of-network services except for urgent and emergency care.

Medigap Blue – Supplemental Insurance Plans (Medigap)

MedigapBlue Medicare Supplement plans are health care coverage programs that help pay for those costs not covered by Original Medicare. MedigapBlue fills in the gaps of Medicare such as deductibles, coinsurance and copayments. To enroll in MedigapBlue, you must be enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Part B. MedigapBlue offers you a choice of six plans – Plan A, B, C, F, F High Deductible and N. After Medicare pays for its part, a Medicare supplement or “Medigap” policy, like MedigapBlue, covers the difference for many eligible services. With MedigapBlue, you have the ability to choose any doctor, specialist or hospital that accepts Medicare – with no limitations or no referrals. MedigapBlue, like other Medicare Supplement plans, does not come with Part D prescription drug coverage.

BlueRx PDP – Prescription Drug Coverage Plans

BlueRx PDP is a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan from Highmark Senior Resources. BlueRx PDP provides coverage for generic and brand name drugs listed on the Highmark Medicare-approved formulary. BlueRx PDP is available to people entitled to Medicare Part A or enrolled in Medicare Part B who live in Pennsylvania or West Virginia. BlueRx PDP plans cover all drugs allowed by Medicare. These drugs are listed on our large formulary. You pay a low copayment for each drug, and there are no annual drug maximums. BlueRx PDP plans offer different levels of coverage through the “coverage gap”. Choose between a plan that pays 7% of the cost of generic drugs and another plan that covers generic drugs for a $7 copayment through the “coverage gap”. Both plans provide a 50% discount on brand-name drugs through the gap, so you are always covered.
