Montana has a very extensive Medicare program that includes many additional plans hard to find in some areas of the country. These include the standard Medicare Part A, B, and D as well as Advantage plans often known as Medicare Part C. There are also further plans that qualify as Medigap plans as they help cover the costs of extra care and paying for deductibles and co-payments often associated with standard Medicare Part A and Part B. Medicare Part D is often included in the Medicare supplemental insurance programs, Advantage or Medicare Select. If it is not it is important to talk to your health insurance provider to get it included in your plans. Medicare Part D is the coverage that pays for your prescription medicines. Without Part D the costs associated with prescription drugs can become unmanageable. Just one prescription can easily cost over $100 per refill and some cost many times that amount.
Health insurance for seniors can be confusing and the Medicare office can help you understand the basic Medicare Part A which you are automatically enrolled in when you reach retirement age. Medicare Part A is a free basic health insurance but there are many deductible and co-pay expenses. Medicare Part A does not cover much outside of routine medical care. For more extensive coverage you must enroll yourself in Medicare Part B, a premium health insurance for seniors still distributed by the Medicare offices. All of the other Medicare supplemental plans are provided by private health insurance companies but are regulated by the federal government to be affordable and consistent in their coverage from one company to the other. While all 10 Medicare plans (Medicare Part A through Part J) are available to citizens of Montana, and regulated by the government, not all private health insurance companies carry all of the plans.
