When you reach retirement age it is important to become informed on the various supplemental Medicare policies and other health insurance for seniors. These extra policies have a monthly premium that must be paid but will cover all of the expenses that your automatic Medicare Part A does not cover along with helping with the high deductibles and co-payments that you will be billed for with only Medicare Part A coverage.
Health insurance for seniors is extremely important because that is the time in life when most of your medical bills will stack up. The amounts can be staggering and many individuals are shocked to learn that Medicare by itself will not cover all the costs. In fact, it only covers a small portion of the costs and doesn't even include prescription medicines which are at their highest for elderly patients.
Medicare Part B is the first supplement plan most seniors opt for in their health insurance quest, closely followed by Medicare Part D. Part B covers many of the expenses not handled by the government supplied Medicare Part A, and Part D is specifically a prescription drug plan that will cover 80 percent of the costs of your medicines.
Medicare Part C is a supplement plan developed to cover even more expenses for the senior patient, and also combines Part A, B, and D so that all of your bills are handled under one policy with one payment to make each month.
Even with all of those there can still be some medical bills that are not completely covered and for that there is Medigap. Medigap is a special supplement that covers the unpaid costs of deductibles and co-payments.
