UCare is an independent, nonprofit health insurance company in Minnesota that provides health coverage and services to thousands of members across the state. Working in partnership with local health care providers and community organizations, UCare serves families and individuals who are enrolled in Minnesota Health Care Programs, such as MinnesotaCare and Medical Assistance as well as adults with disabilities.
UCare strives to improve the health of their members in Minnesota through innovative services and partnerships across communities. To fulfill this mission, UCare provides comprehensive health coverage to Minnesota residents through a community-based, holistic approach. UCare supports family practice education and research so this philosophy of care can be carried well into into the future.
Since its was founded in 1984 by the Department of Family Practice and Community Health at the University of Minnesota, UCare has grown to be a leading health plan serving specific member groups in Minnesota. In 2008, their members rated UCare's Medicare Advantage plan as a nine for Overall Rating of Health Plan. This Consumer Assessment of Health Care Providers and Systems (CAHPS) score from 2009 is higher than the national average and all other Minnesota Medicare Advantage Plans. UCare is the fourth-largest health plan in Minnesota, and serves thousands of members across Minnesota, as well as working with thousands of health care providers across Minnesota.
