The master contract for a group health insurance plan is often highly technical and may be quite lengthy. You may only need a copy of certain sections. If you're unable to obtain a copy of those sections, either your employer's benefits manager or the insurer may be able to provide a detailed summary of specific provisions or may be able to offer answers to questions about particular benefits.

Once you've reviewed the contract, you're ready to begin to deal with any problems that might develop. In this chapter, we will discuss the types of problems that may occur in relation to claims filed with individual and group health insurance plans for doctors' bills. Chapter 5 will review the types of problems that may occur in relation to hospital bills. This chapter and Chapter 5 will also include a discussion of possible solutions to specific problems.
