It's essential to photocopy that medical bill for your records before mailing in the claim and to keep those photocopies in a safe place. If you're covered by a secondary insurer, you'll need to make two photocopies of the bill, one for your records and one for the secondary insurer. That may save you a great deal of time later on, if a bill is lost or misplaced.
In addition, if you are filing a claim for a significant amount of money, it's usually best to file it separately, without attaching other medical bills to the claim form. Filing a large group of bills at the same time -- with a single claim form-may seem easier, but it may also increase the likelihood that bills may be mis placed or processed incorrectly.
Another important advantage of attaching only one medical bill to each claim form is that it makes it much easier to under stand the Explanation of Benefits Statement from the insurer, and to quickly identify any claim-processing errors. If you file a group of claims, the EOBS may include all the payments together as if they represented a single bill.
