In addition, if you talk with a particularly helpful supervisor or executive at your insurance company at some point, list that person's name and telephone number in your information file, as well. If you have both a primary and a secondary insurer, create a separate information file for each one.
Many people wait until they need this kind of information before they try to obtain answers to their questions. Unfortunately, that approach does not often work very well, and may lead to difficulty if you're unable to obtain the information you need when you have to make a decision. Listing the information in advance in an information file guarantees that it will be available whenever it's needed. Since the booklets provided by insurance companies are not always clear, listing the answers to questions in advance also offers an opportunity to call or write to the insurer to request additional information in terms of specific benefits.
