Base Rate
The cost of a given unit of insurance for each specific type of auto coverage, such as bodily injury and property damage liability. For example, a base rate might be $300 for $100,000 of liability coverage. A driver with a poor driving record must be charged an increased amount to reflect the poor record. This increased amount is computed by multiplying the base rate by a rating factor. See also Rating Process.
