What Do You Mean It's Not Covered: Optional Coverage: Private Nurse Expense

PRIVATE DUTY NURSE COVERAGE (While Hospital Confined) -- The benefits for a private duty nurse when required during hospital confinement will be the expense incurred, subject to the following limits.For each day a private duty nurse is required, we will pay: (1) up to the amount shown on page EI2,5 for the insured person for each 8 hour shift, and (2) up to 30 days of such service in one period of confinement. A Private Duty Nurse is a licensed Graduate Registered Nurse or a Licensed Vocational Nurse whose service is rendered solely for the insured person.

A member of the insured person's immediate family shall not be considered a Private Duty Nurse. In order for the service of a Private Duty Nurse to be covered: (1) the service must be rendered as the result of an injury or sickness (2) this coverage must be in force for the insured person when such service begins (3) the insured must be confined in the hospital (4) the service must be at the direction of and under the supervision of a physician or surgeon.

This is an optional coverage that provides benefits for the services of a private duty nurse when required during hospital confinement. Coverage only applies to each insured for whom it is shown in the policy schedule. When purchased, benefits are provided for up to 30 days during any one period of confinement. For each day a private duty nurse is required, the policy will pay up to the maximum benefit shown in the schedule for each eight-hour shift. An example: You're hospitalized due to a serious injury and require the services of a private duty nurse. Your benefit amount is $50 for each eight-hour shift, so you have up to $150 of coverage if nurses are required 24 hours a day. Your maximum benefit would be $4,500 if nurses were required continuously for 30 days. A "private duty nurse" means a licensed graduate registered or vocational nurse who provides services exclusively for the insured patient. A member of your immediate family does not qualify as a private duty nurse. In order for private duty nurse benefits to apply the services must be given due to injury or sickness, coverage must be in force when the service begins, the insured must be confined in a hospital, and the services must be given at the direction of a physician or surgeon.
