What Do You Mean It's Not Covered: Coverage for Mental Illness and Drug Dependency

Mental Illness. When an insured person is an inpatient in a mental or general hospital for the treatment of mental, emotional or nervous disorders, the insured expenses are the regular and customary charges for room (other than private room), board and general nursing care, and miscellaneous hospital services. When confinement to a private room is necessary, we will pay up to the average semi-private room charge of the hospital, or of the community if the hospital does not have semi-private rooms. Coverage will not exceed 30 days active treatment in a payment period.

Inpatient benefits are provided when an insured is confined in a mental or general hospital for the treatment of mental, emotional or nervous disorders. Coverage applies to the regular and customary charges for semi-private room and board, nursing care, and miscellaneous services. Coverage for treatment of mental or emotional conditions is limited to 30 days of active treatment in any one payment period (five years). Alcoholism or Drug Dependency. When an insured person is an inpatient in a mental hospital or general hospital for treatment of drug addiction or alcoholism, the insured expenses are room (other than private room), board and general nursing care, and miscellaneous hospital services.

When confinement to a private room is necessary, we will pay up to the average semi-private room charge of the hospital or community if the hospital does not have semi-private rooms.

Separate inpatient benefits are also provided when an insured is confined in a mental or general hospital for the treatment of alcoholism or drug dependency. Once again coverage applies to the regular and customary charges for semi-private room and board, nursing care, and miscellaneous services. Coverage for treatment of alcoholism or drug dependency is also limited to 30 days of active treatment in any one payment period (five years).
