What Do You Mean It's Not Covered: A Key Issue: Adding New Family Members
ADDITION OF PERSONS TO THE POLICY AFTER THE POLICY DATE -- A child born to you while this policy is in force will be insured for 31 days from the date of birth. For the child to continue to be insured, you must make written request and pay the premium for that child within 31 days after the child's birth. Premium for the child will be prorated from the date of birth to the next premium due date of this policy. The insurance on a newborn child will include coverage for congenital defects, birth abnormalities, as well as injury or sickness. Benefits are not payable for premature birth or routine well-baby care. Other dependents under age 64 may be added to this policy. To do so, you must (1) make written application to us (2) furnish proof that the person is insurable by our underwriting standards, and (3) pay the additional premium due for that person. The first premium for the person to be added will be determined from the effective date of their coverage to the next premium due date.
A newborn child will be automatically covered for 31 days after the date of birth. In order for the coverage to continue beyond that time, the insurance company must be notified of the birth, coverage must be requested, and an additional premium for the child must be paid within this 31-day period. Coverage for a newborn child includes coverage for congenital defects, birth abnormalities, and injury or sickness. But no benefits are provided for premature birth (where no defects or abnormalities are involved) or well-baby care. Additional dependents under the age of 64, such as a new spouse or adopted child, may be added to the policy. The policyholder must make application for coverage, submit proof of insurability, and pay an additional premium for the additional dependent.
