Taking Care of Mom and Dad: Community-Based Residential Facilities

These facilities can house up to 200 adults. Some have private apartments, and others have separate resident bedrooms with a common living area. Residents generally can choose from a package of basic services, such as meals and activities, which is included in their rent. Additional services will require increased fees. Facilities are run by administrators who in many states are required to be at least 21 years old and a high school graduate. Often, they are required to have administrative experience or one university-level course in business management. Lastly, they need to have one year of experience with the type of clients being served, or one university-level course relating to the needs of the client group.
