Merritt Personal Lines Manual: Converting Existing Coverage to Some New Form
CONVERSION PRIVILEGE
If we elect to non-renew this policy, there is no conversion privilege available.
Coverage can be converted on an adult insured when their insurance terminates due to attainment of age 65 or when they become eligible for Medicare.
The new policy will be that policy form, if any, which we are then offering in that person's resident state to those who are eligible for Medicare. Coverage can be converted on an insured dependent child when such child's insurance terminates due to age, marriage or when no longer dependent. The new policy will be the policy form we are then offering in the person's resident state which is most similar to this policy. The benefits of the new policy will not exceed the benefits of this policy.
The new policy will be issued if we receive written application and the required premium at least 31 days prior to the date this insurance is to terminate.
The new policy will be in force on the day after the date this insurance terminates.
The insurance company has the right to discontinue all policies of this same type in a given geographic area. If it discontinues use of the policy, there is no conversion privilege.
When coverage terminates for an adult due to age or eligibility for Medicare, it may be converted to another policy of the type then being offered to persons who are eligible for Medicare.
When coverage terminates for a dependent child due to age, marriage, or an end to dependency, it may also be converted to another policy. The new policy will be of the type then being offered in the insured's state which provides the most similar benefits to this policy. But the insurance company is not obligated to provide benefits which exceed the benefits of this policy.
You have to apply for a converted policy. A converted policy will be issued only if the insurance company receives a written application and payment of the first premium at least 31 days before coverage terminates under the current policy. A converted policy will take effect the day after coverage terminates under this policy.
