How to Insure Your Income: Waiver of Premium

This rider specifies that in the event of a covered disability, premiums will be waived retroactively to the beginning of the disability. The waiver usually requires permanent and total disability -- though some policies allow broader claims.

A caveat: Many people assume wrongly that all forms of insurance include this kind of waiver. Unless they include it specifically, almost none do.
