How to Insure Your Income: Transplant and Cosmetic Surgery Benefits
Most health insurance policies exclude elective or voluntary surgical procedures as covered expenses.
If a person chooses to have nose surgery purely for cosmetic reasons, the expense will not be covered. The same concept generally holds true in the case of a person who voluntarily donates a body organ as part of transplant surgery.
However, some disability income policies will cover injuries that occur as the result of elective surgery. Under these policies, if an insured person becomes disabled as a result of a transplant or cosmetic surgery, he or she only has to satisfy the elimination period and disability income benefits will be paid.
