south Dakota Expands Cancer Screening Program Statewide
The GetScreenedSD colorectal cancer screening program is expanding statewide, the South Dakota Department of Health announced recently. GetScreenedSD encourages all men and women fifty years of age and older to get screened for this preventable form of cancer. Financial help is available for those who meet income guidelines. "Colorectal cancer is preventable and treatable when it's found early with the appropriate screening," Norma Schmidt, Cancer Program Director for the Department of Health. "We're very pleased to have so many providers working with us to make this lifesaving screening available statewide." Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the country, but it doesn't have to be. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that at least 60% of colorectal cancer deaths could be prevented if everyone over the age of fifty had regular screening tests. In South Dakota, an average of 165 people died annually from colorectal cancer from 2003 to 2007.

Deciding on affordable health insurance is pretty hard. It can be so confusing that many people either put it off-a big and potentially costly mistake, or simply point and choose without really knowing what they are getting-could be an even costlier mistake than no insurance at all. So how do you choose health insurance without getting raked over the coals?
Get multiple health insurance quotes online. The Internet is your best resource for everything nowadays and health insurance is no exception. You can easily get quotes from several companies at one time, usually from the same website.
Compare more than just price. Affordable health insurance is important but cost is not the only consideration. Look at the deductible rates, the co-pay rates, and for some people, most important of all, if your current physician and closest hospital are included in the health insurance company's list of providers.
Check out affordable health insurance companies like Golden Rule. They have specifically designed plans for those that prefer to save themselves and have higher deductibles for average health care costs while providing protection against catastrophic illness. They also have ways to save for health care by setting up health savings plans. This differs from an actual health insurance policy in that the health savings is money you deposit on a pre-determined basis that is put on hold for you to cover medical expenses.
Local companies like Avera Health Plans are another great option for residents of South Dakota. They not only have lots of great information on their website for keeping your family healthy, they provide well-care visits to help prevent illness before it strikes, and other options to keep your family protected and healthy.
Looking for local companies is a good way to insure that your health care provider is in touch with the area you live in and has a good reputation with local hospitals and doctors as well. These aspects can be more important than cost when choosing an affordable health insurance program.
Knowing you are covered when emergencies or illnesses happen provides a fantastic peace of mind, and safeguards your family's financial well-being. A single emergency room visit can drive an average family into bankruptcy not to mention the extraordinary costs of a long-term illness so don't put off necessary health insurance coverage just because it is a little confusing. Get the facts, and be prepared so that you do not have to worry or put off necessary medical attention for your loved ones.
