West Nile Virus Affects the Health of Arizona Residents

At least six people in Arizona have tested positive for the West Nile virus recently. All of the cases were found in the East Valley from both Maricopa and Pinal Counties. "Unfortunately, most of these cases have the more severe form of West Nile virus which is meningitis and/or encephalitis," said Craig Levy, ADHS Vector Control Program Manager. "Because most people with milder symptoms of West Nile stay at home and don't seek medical care, we rarely hear of these cases. That means there are a lot more people sick with West Nile than we know of." So far this year, more than eighty mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile virus all over Arizona, although many have been in the East Valley region. West Nile virus can cause severe illness in people as well as horses, although only about 20% of those infected will actually develop flu-like symptoms, which includes fever, headache, body aches and muscle weakness. Some people, especially the elderly, may experience more severe symptoms including high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, and/or encephalitis or inflammation of the brain.

Finding cheap and affordable health insurance is a top priority for many people in Arizona and throughout the country. With job losses at a high and many employers cutting benefits to those that still have their jobs they are finding themselves having to sort through the many different types of medical insurance coverage and choosing between health insurance quotes that all look alike and different at the same time. One thing they all look like is confusing. When it comes to finding the right health insurance plan from a leading Arizona health insurance company there doesn't have to be as much confusion as there seems to be.

First of all you need to know what the major differences are between those confusing acronyms HMO, PPO and POS are.

Know Your Health Insurance Coverage

HMO stands for Health Maintenance Organization and under these plans a provider develops a list of physicians and hospitals that join their system that you must select from. You need to pick a primary care physician and a hospital that you prefer and are locked into using them for all of your needs unless they refer you to someone else.

PPO stands for Preferred Provider Organization and operates quite a bit like an HMO except that you can pick and choose from the list of providers and use any of them at any time. This plan gives you a cheaper health insurance rate although a little more expensive than most HMO plans but are more popular because of the freedom allowed.

POS is a traditional Point of Service type of health insurance that has no lists or participating physicians. You use your regular doctor or choose from any available physician or hospital and the insurance company pays a percentage of all medical bills for covered services while you pay the remaining amounts.

Covered services are something you need to consider when looking at health insurance quotes. Make sure that cheap health insurance will cover the needs your situation requires such as well care doctor visits if you have young children, how many yearly physicals you are entitled to as an adult, if they have dental or vision coverage, and if your plan will include prescription medicines or there is a rider available for them.

Top Arizona Health Insurance Providers

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Arizona is a part of one of the leading health care organizations in the country that offers all of the above types of services. They are able to provide cheap health insurance prices because of the sheer numbers of individuals they insure. Operating under a similar way as an employee group plan having an insurance company that has enough members to allow cheaper rates is one way to get all of the best coverage practices at lower prices.

CIGNA is yet another Arizona health insurance that is nationwide, and large enough to have low rates while giving all of the very best services. When comparing health insurance quotes it is important to note that while small local companies may be able to give you a cheaper health insurance quote they might not be able to compete with the national companies in services provided.

Another possibility when searching for health insurance quotes for those who have lost their jobs or have a low income and can't afford the high cost of health insurance premiums is government subsidies. Check out all of your local services to be sure you are taking full advantage of what is available to you.
