U.S. Government Launches Health Care Website. How Effecitve Will it Be?

We’re all about the merger of technology and health care here at Health Insurance Online. We believe that the medical profession could be strengthened and made more efficient if they used more online services to give better access to health records, allow more communication with doctors and patients, and much more. While there are providers and companies that are offering these options, it doesn’t feel as widespread as it should. Well, according to several sources, the U.S. Government is getting on the technological bandwagon with a new website at http://www.healthcare.gov/, which is to work alongside the recently signed health care legislation that will take place in 2014.

The website itself is fairly comprehensive when going through it, giving state-specific information on where to find health insurance, tips on prevention and more. The biggest deal for most people, I think, is a comprehensive, yet not complicated, explanation as to how the new health care law will affect us. This portion of the site has clear-to-understand video and comprehensive information about the new law and how it’ll affect you individually. I personally think this goes farther than anything I’ve seen before in explaining the new laws in layman’s terms. Overall, this site is a great resource for finding affordable health insurance options and learning more about the upcoming health care reform laws.

However, will it be effective for most people? It’s hard to say. While it has a lot of useful information, is easy to use and so on, whether many people will use it and get something out of its information is another matter. While usage of the Internet is becoming more and more commonplace, we have yet to see if this information will be of use to most of the people who the law is made to protect. Hopefully those uninsured will be able to learn from this site and find out how the law affects them.
